The causes of changing customer behaviour within the energy market are well-known: high levels of price fluctuation, an unclear approach to the energy transition, and increasing media coverage making energy a "hot topic" are just some factors affecting customers and disturbing established business models. The primary, and natural, reaction of many business leaders is to develop a new strategy in line which reflects these changing market parameters. This is of course necessary, but what value does a strategy bring if it does not result in real change within the organisation?
Although finalising a new strategy feels like the end of the story, we believe the real work begins with strategy implementation. What does the strategy mean for employees on a daily basis? What needs to happen at an operational level to ensure the strategy is actually implemented throughout the organisation? Why should employees buy into the new business goals? Such questions are too often neglected.
We have often seen the same situation: A new business strategy is launched with great fanfare and then…nothing happens. Primarily, this is due to middle management and operational teams being unable to "translate" the strategy into concrete initiatives or changes to work processes, or to understand what the new strategy means for them.
To combat this risk we have developed our plan 2 win. The plan 2 win seeks to close the gap between the strategy written on a page and what actually happens within an organisation. We use our plan 2 win canvas to establish the links between the overarching strategy, the relevant success factors for the business unit, and the prerequisites needed to realise them. Finally, a prioritised roadmap of concrete initiatives is developed so the business unit can be sure that the work they are doing is aligned with the business strategy as a whole. The strategy therefore becomes not only "real" for your employees, but its effects can also be measured and perceived by your customers.
- Clarity and focus: Clear goals and initiatives are provided for all employees
- Efficiency: The plan ensure that processes are optimised and resources are allocated effectively
- Sustainable success: A long term improvement for both the performance of your business and, most importantly, the experience of your customers
Although these three components are our primary focus, additional benefits such as increased engagement with the strategy are often also realised during the plan 2 win process.
